On Sunday 3 July, NAIDOC Week kicks off for 2022. This annual celebration is our chance to honour and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme is ‘Get up! Stand up! Show up!’.
We encourage our staff and residents to attend local events in their community to celebrate NAIDOC. Below, we have compiled an event list for each day of the week to attend and show your support.
All events listed are free unless stated otherwise.
Sunday 3 July, 9.30 (session one) or 12.15 (session two)
Glades Bay River Walk, Ryde
Join the community in a guided walk along the Wulaba Track and down by the Parramatta River.

Monday 4 July, 10am-2pm
Aboriginal Catholic Care Emerton’s NAIDOC Community Event
Held at 254 Luxford Road, this NAIDOC event in Emerton will feature stalls, entertainment, rides, face painting and much more.

Tuesday 5 July, 10am-11.30am
Right & Freedoms NAIDOC Tour
Explore the Cadi Jam Ora garden in the Royal Botanic Garden on a guided tour, while learning about First Nations history, culture and sovereignty. Activities included.Â

Wednesday 6 July, 12-2pm
Northern Beaches NAIDOC event
Drop by Meriton Square in Dee Why to hear traditional music sung in Aboriginal language from Michael Birk. There will also be workshops on dance and bush tucker.

Penrith City Council’s NAIDOC event
Come down to Jamison Park in Penrith for the annual NAIDOC celebration, featuring food stalls, cultural activities, live music and more.

Cultural bushwalk beginning in Castle Cove
Karen Smith from Willoughby Council’s local Aboriginal Heritage Office will guide a walk through the bush, providing information on Indigenous history, culture and landscape features.

Painted River Project
Head to the Auburn Botanic Gardens to make art and connect with community on the Ducks River, while learning about the history of the Darug people.
