G.R.O.W: Generating Real Opportunities for Women

GROW is a new program which aims to directly link Western Sydney women who have barriers to employment with an opportunity for training and employment, due to a shortage in cleaning staff within the health care sector and care sector.

THIS INNOVATIVE PROJECT PROVIDES A SOLUTION TO A REAL BUSINESS RECRUITMENT PROBLEM AND A SOLID CHANCE AT EMPLOYMENT FOR VULNERABLE WOMEN.
GROW WILL TRAIN AND PROVIDE PAID WORK EXPERIENCE IN DOMESTIC CLEANING, INCLUDING UNITS OF COMPETENCY WHICH CAN BE INCORPORATED INTO ACCREDITED QUALIFICATIONS.

When will GROW start?

  • Intake and interviews begin in January to mid February 2021
  • Training begins in late February to early March 2021

What will the participants be doing?

Participants will:

  • complete three accredited units through TAFE focused on cleaning and care skills for the aged care and health industries
  • complete paid work experience to further support training outcomes
  • connect directly with employers within aged care and health industries

What organisations are involved?

GROW is a collaborative project lead by Wentworth Community Housing, with partners including Kingswood TAFE, Domestic Violence Services Management(DVSM) and Schools Industry Partnership. All local services are however encouraged to refer women who are interested in the program.

How long does this program go for?

The program will be delivered over 3 to 4 months.

Who can be referred?

Women over 18 who are interested in employment as a cleaner are encouraged to apply.

We very warmly welcome women from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and women who are culturally and linguistically diverse within this program

TAFE Student eligibility:

Students that meet Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria as per Schedule 2 of the Smart and Skilled Contract Terms and Conditions that are one of the following four categories are eligible for Skilling for Recovery funded training:

  • A young person aged 17 to 24 at commencement of training, regardless of employment status, including Year 12 School leavers
  • A person who is a recipient of a Commonwealth Government welfare benefit (and their dependants) as specified in the Smart and Skilled Fee Administration Policy
  • An unemployed person
  •  An employed person who is ‘expected to become unemployed’ as defined by the Department. See definition below. Definition of an employed person who is ‘expected to become unemployed’ Skilling for Recovery primarily seeks to help unemployed people to re-train or for young people to start their career but it will also support people expected to become unemployed.
