‘Earn while you learn’: CHIA NSW’s Cadetship Program now open

In partnership with the NSW Government, the Community Housing Industry Association of New South Wales (CHIA NSW) is seeking applications from people looking to begin a career in the community housing sector.

Through the Cadetship Program, 25 successful applicants will be placed in a community housing organisation for 12 months while earning an award wage and completing a Certificate IV in Housing.

Link Wentworth’s first cadet through the program is Tionnie, commencing with us in 2021. Tionnie had always wanted to pursue a career in community housing but had lacked the experience and knowledge to get started.

Tionnie says, “Whilst researching ways to get my foot in the door, I came across the Cadetship Program on the CHIA website. I knew it would be a great opportunity to be employed in a position that would allow me to liaise with all areas of the housing network.”

Tionnie’s feedback on the program was that it taught her so many valuable skills, including how to assist clients with complex needs and understanding your own biases. Eight months into the program, Tionnie is thriving and has even been successful in securing a position at one of Link Wentworth’s offices.

Her advice for people considering applying for the program? “Go for it!”

“If you like the idea of being able to assist some of the most vulnerable people within our communities gain housing that is safe and secure and to help them to grow within the community, then this is the career for you,” she says. “CHIA and Link Wentworth’s support throughout the whole process has been amazing! I will be forever grateful for this opportunity and encourage you to apply.”

You can read about the program in further detail in the CHIA NSW Cadetship Program 2022 Information Flyer.
