Get connected for resilience

Emergencies and natural disaster such as floods, bushfires, storms and heatwaves can happen anywhere, anytime. Weโ€™re encouraging Link Wentworth residents across Greater Sydney to prepare and weโ€™re here to support you in your preparedness journey.

Here, we are look at how to build connections in your community.


Neighbours
Neighbourhood connections are key to preparing for and staying safer in times of crisis. Getting to know your neighbours needs to be part of your emergency plan. Here are some simple things you can do to start:

  • Introduce yourself and talk to your neighbours.
  • Think of ways to connect to your neighbours, especially those who are isolated or might need additional support.
  • Share information and resources such as flyers to start conversations.
  • Set up neighbourhood contact list and/or an online community (e.g. WhatsApp, Facebook)
  • Plan and organise neighbourhood social activities or projects that will bring people together. See suggestions below.


Ideas for neighbourhood activities
Below are some ideas for the types of activities you can work with your neighbours to organise. Contact the Community Programs Team on 13 14 21 or at communityprograms@linkwentworth.org.au to see how we and other organisations could support your activities.

  • Street parties, BBQs, picnics, morning teas, game or movie nights
  • Neighbourhood cleanups
  • Hobby groups (e.g. card or book clubs, walking groups)
  • Skill or information sharing activities
  • Community library or garden


Community connections
To build your support network, make connections in the community beyond your neighbourhood. Participate in events organised by Link Wentworth, local councils, emergency services and local organisations such as community centres.
